Ian Powell has come back from his holiday a new man and thus his golf game has catapulted him to the next level. His 26 points in the 9 hole event won him the comp from unlucky runner-up Tony Woolridge on the coin toss. Maurie Moody returned 25 points while Dave Rumble had 24 points and Tim McBride 23 points. With the grit and determination of a fox terrier Dave Rumble clawed his way round the 18 hole layout with a very impressive 48 points to easily take out the 18 hole event. Tony Woolridge keeps the bridesmaid tradition intact, taking out second in the 18 hole event as well with a very tidy 42 points on the countback from Tim McBride. Wayne Handley rounded out the rundown with 41 points. The pins went to Albert Pini on 2, Ernie Holstein on 9, Dave Rumble on 13 and Barry Mackenzie on 16. The weekly Chook Run attracted a small but eager turnout during the week. New-comer to the game Will McManus, conquered the field to take the win with 29 nett. No-one present for the lucky card draw and will jackpot to a carton & half this week. Perhaps some sore heads form New Years Eve celebrations and the persistent drizzly conditions were the main reason behind the reduced numbers for Saturdays Hotel Metropole Monthly Medal. There was nothing wet about Rob Stanleys round though, as he shot a 4-under par round of 67 for a nett score of 63 to win the Hotel Metropole Monthly Medal & A-Grade Medal for January. Runner-up for A-Grade was Gavin Milne who shot a 1-under par 70 for a nett score of 65. B-Grade winner was Chris Bridger, shooting 79 off the stick for 64 nett and runner-up B-Grade went to Steve Cotton shooting 88 for a nett 72. C-Grade Medal winner was Jim Cochrane, 87 off the stick for nett 65 and runner-up C-Grade was Mike George on nett 66. Pins went to Dave Gates on 5, Gavin Milne on 9, Neil Cawthorne on 13 and Michael Walton on 16. This Saturday will be a club event with players welcome to start early and beat the heat or register and tee-off from Midday. Visitors and social players are welcome to play any day during the week, including the weekend and can tee-off anytime after 6.30am.
