Whitsunday Golf Club

Sunday September 17, 2006

It was another perfect Whitsunday morning for the Monthly Medal event this week.

Winner of A-grade with a net score of 66 was Tommy Maaka from Joey Dalton on 67. Mick Cooper took out the B-grade with 58 net with runner-up Adam Stralow on 61.

Longest drives were won by Tony Rees and Tess Aitken. Nearest the pins were won by Mick Cooper, Jimmy McGaffin, Kerry Hall and Chris Bailey.

The winner of the 3-putt snake this week was won with a toss of a coin by Kerry Hall from Peter Scott who both had 6 each. Bad luck Kerry!

Shot of the week was by Tony Rees who’s 1st drive went straight up in the air into a tree and then dropped into a bin. Needless to say, his game improved somewhat after that. Buck Little spent all morning complaining that he had left his buggy key at home only to find it in his wallet back at the pub afterwards.

Thursday Club:
Testing, would be the best way to describe the weather for last Thursday’s events. Most players struggled but not Jason Evans, who shot a strong net 28 to win the 9 hole event by 3 shots from Brian Smith and Russell Reardon, both on 31. Ray Plant, James Carman and Al Graham were another shot back on 32.
Brian Smith carried on with his good form to win the 18 hole event after shooting a great 65 net, winning by one shot from Ken Whittaker on 66. Albert Pini and Peter Hull were close behind on 68 while Ray Plant and Ian Powell need to practice after rounds of 69.
Pin Shots went to Bruce Munro, Russell Reardon, Shane Haines and Ken Whittaker.

Crossley Holden Scramble:
The best field of the year showed up to contest the Crossley Holden Scramble on Saturday. 118 players went out in the 3 ball ambrose, some travelling from Mareeba, Atherton and Half Moon Bay near Cairns. Eventual winners were a mixed bag team of visitors and previous members. Former Prossy resident Lance Ryan teamed well with Sai Stiller from Glenden and Adrian Sturma to post the winning score of 56 net. They had a two shot buffer from the local team of Troy Dobbins, Simon Dobbins and Michael Kavanagh who needed a countback to go in their favour to go to the regional finals to be played at Willows, Townville next month.
Unlucky in third place were Luke Watling, Aaron Dixon and Barry Shuwalow also on 58 net.
Nearest the Pins went to Luke Watling’s team on no.2 & 16, Mark Bell’s team for no. 9 and Adam Stroud was knocking down the pins on 12 and 13.
Thanks to John & Dianne Crossley and the Holden team for their support and all volunteers for their help with this hugely successful event. See you all again next year.

This Weekend:
This weekend will be a single stableford club event as the A Grade Pennant team travels to Ingham to do battle in Division 3. Good luck boys.
