Thursday Club:
Rod Wecker somehow managed to get his handicap out far enough to win the 9 hole comp last Thursday with a solid 28 nett. Michael Kavanagh was close behind on 29 with Peter Scrivens. Andrew Colborne, Tom Phillips and Pascal Neunreuther were in the rundown.
The purple patch continued for Bill Woods, in good time for the pennants, after he shot another great round of just 2 over 73 resulting in a 63 nett. Adam Stroud also showed his form is holding up with a solid 64 nett. Albert Pini and George Gnezdiloff kept them honest with good rounds of 65 nett.
Albert then went on to pinch 2 pin shots on 9 and 13. Don Hope got close on number 2 and Bruce Munro wasn’t far away on 16.
Saturday Monthly Medal:
The C Graders came out in force for the September Monthly Medal. Rob Stirling shot a personal best of 90 off the stick for a 63 nett to win the Overall Mug and C Grade Medal. Gary Simpson was next best, just one shot away on 64 and Stuart Win would have felt hard done by after his stellar 65 nett only got him into 3rd place.
His 65 was still better than the best A Grader, Rod Wecker’s score of 67 nett, which was good enough to win the A Grade medal from Ray Plant on 70.
The B Graders seemed to struggle in the windy conditions but Pascal Neunreuther came out on top with a 71 nett, winning on a countback from Mark Russell.
C Graders got the best of the pin shots aswell with Jason Evans bagging a double and Rob Stirling was close on no. 9. Rod Wecker was close on no. 2, Bill Foot picked up no. 1 and Gus Ogilvie ripped it on 18.
Coming Up:
The Proserpine Men’s Open is on over 2 days this weekend. Late nominations will be accepted but could result in either very early or late tee times. Call the club on 4945 1337 to register as early as possible.
The Holden Scramble is on the following Saturday and is shaping to be a very big event. Nominate your team of 3 AGU handicapped players with the club on 4945 1337.
Dawnbusters
Winner of the monthly mug was Jack Spruce with 51 gross/ 38 nett, runnerup was Paul Grace with 48 gross/ 39 nett. The prospect of retirement was a 'geeup' for Jim Evans who came in third on a count back from Paul. Graeme Stoodley and Tom Fleming won the pinshots and Paul Grace had the least number of putts and Margaret Arnold was the Snake putter and Bradman's winner.
Whitsunday Golf Club
The WGC played a nine hole stableford and the A grade winner was Kerry Hal with 20 points, runnerup was Chris Bailey. The B grade winner was Billy O'Shea with 26 points, the runnerup was Mark Mc Dougall on 24 points. The pinshot winners were Sam and Jim Benny and the longest drive for the ladies was played by Anita Benny. The men's longest drive was won by Stephen Fahey and the snake putter was Scott Wardroper.
Friday chook run
Twenty-two players joined the 9 hole stableford competition on the back nine this week resulting in a win for Dean Kercher with 27 stableford points on a countback from Chris Connors . Third place was won by Beryl Nosworthy with 26 stableford points and Greg Locke was in the rundown with 25 stableford points. Ian Budd missed out on the card draw which is done at 5.30pm each Friday and the person drawn must be present to win.
Juniors
Only eight juniors played the Friday comp this week and only 2 players handed in their cards. Chris' putting competition on a Friday after holes is being well received by the juniors.
Ladies
The ladies didn't compete in the Monthly Medal on Saturday but they played a stableford competition on Wednesday with Marlene Gray victorious on 40 stableford points on a countback from Lyn Muller. Bernice Petersen and Reh Hull won balls in the rundown. The pinshots were won by Augusta Hermanns and Marietta Smith who are visiting us again this year and Lyn Muller. Please note ladies the Wednesday competition will tee off from 12.30 from this week until further notice.
